Cleaning sued half chaps?

I have some Dublin suede half chaps which to say the least they are pretty muddy, so bad now I can't zip them down to the bottom due to the mud (whoops) will they be okay chucked in the washing machine? Mum used to with my old ones but they were synthetic not real suede, anybody have an ideas?

I have Shires suede ones and have washed them in the washing machine, low temperature. Came out fine.

Wait til the mud dries then brush with a stiff brush - not only lifts the mud but somehow seems to rejuvenate the 'pile'
