Another question of mine!

Im going to Robinsons on Friday and Im going to buy some tack cleaning stuff and give everything a good clean!

Whats the best tack cleaner to use??

On the saddle underneath where the stirrup leathers are, the leather is quite worn, like the colour has worn away compared to the rest of the saddle.

Many thanks :)

i find the best way is to concoct your own :) melt down a couple of bars of glycerince saddle soap with milk and then leave to set. its really nice to use, really conditioning and easy to get up a good shine.

As a fitter I am not a fan of glycerine (or of milk on leather ) - glycerine soap is the wrong ph for leather but if used as a cleanser it should be rinsed off. If used as a condition it's not that great - it's a humectant, meaning it attracts water, which is why it gets kind of sticky and attracts dirt (grease jockeys anyone? Not had any since I stopped using glycerin!).

I recommend a good old fashioned woven dishcloth, elbow grease and warm water for cleaning, and then a very light application of a good cleanser when needed - I recommend Effax Lederbalsam, Oakwood Conditioner, Leather Therapy Conditioner and Stubben Hamanol.
