Hi, just wanted to ask a few questions about clear round shows. Rules probabaly depend but:

Do you have to be in full show gear?
How high are the jumps you've seen? Do they have higher classes, or is it just always around 2 etc foot mark normally?

My idea of it is that it's not particualy competitive. Do you go round untill you get a clear?

Basically, feel a bit silly not knowing much about them! Could someone explain?
Thanks

Clear round SJ down here is simple, you can wear what you want to jump round, and you can choose the height (normally, if not usually around 2ft mark). You go in and they say go and you toodle on round, if you jump all the fences without stopping, running out, knockIng them over and falling off you get a rosette and that's your clear round!

You can do it as many times as you like usually :)

i've found that they will run clear rounds at a certain height for a couple of hours and then put it up. so it may start at 9am at 2ft, go up to 2ft 3 at 11am and so on, so they don't have to keep changing the height for people. you just pay to do your round, go straight in and if you go clear you get a rosette and you can do as many rounds as you like with the same horse (within reason) and you are usually allowed to have people come in and help you (ie your instructor) if you get stuck.

ETA - and yes i've only ever known them to stay 2'6 and under. i guess the idea is that if you can get your horse to go clear round a 2'6 clear round course then you can do a proper sj class.

my old yard had it so that the fences went up approx every half hour and the highest was usually 1.10m.
love clear round - great way to practice for comps as I usually do a higher course

I was at blood_magiks old yard on wed doing the clear round and had a ball! It was my first time out with my new mare and we did a little warm up at 60cm and then two rounds at 70cm. It was really laid back ie no dressing up and could take as long as you needed in the ring. The fences just kept going up as long as people wanted them up.

Really depends on where you go.

Some shows have a dedicated clear round ring where only clear round happends and the jumps usually go up through the day in relation to the main ring but slightly lower and usually less fillers etc. That said, if you have a helper who can drop poles quickly then that is usualy allowed but you wont get the rosette!

Other shows have clear round first thing in the morning, then a couple of classes and then another clear round for half an hour or so and then more classes.

Clothes - I would always turn up with a jacket and body protector at every show as you never know! Some old PC DC might be running it all full atire would be required!!

Our local show has a clear round ring running most of the day. You can alter the height as you want them (I did it in hand with my pony so they had to drop the jumps for me). You pay your enty fee (£3 i think) and jump the course. If you go clear you get rossette, if not you can pay to have another go. Very informal but everyone is generally in show gear as they are competing in other classes.

Depends where you are, our RC clear round evenings go to whatever height you want - we use them as practice for team events, or getting youngsters out, sorting out any issues etc. On Thursday I think they went up to 3'6".
