Cleveland Bay/Beatles and Japanese Emperor

Saw this when it was published in the paper a couple of months back. Gilly is one of my clients and a lovely lady

Yeah it was a great article

I work for Gilly Dimmock... only just to help her out since her husband died, but she really is amazing. So are the horses

I used to deal with her cleveland bay stallion before he went to Japan. He was THE loveliest animal in the world, huge but such a kind horse. She now has a pure filly by him which seeing as he didn't cover many mares that season is probably one of the last of his progeny in the UK. Hopefully she will breed from her at some point.

She has also just brought home a new stallion; the 3 year old Botton Grove Benson.

I now, unsuprisingly after working with Gilly for over 2 years, own my own cleveland bay. A wonderful 4 year old gelding, hence my name =].

Nice to see people have read her article though =]

Yes he will get more gorgeous by the week. I have four, sorry five, we have a 3 week old filly, Cleveland Bays.

I love them because I feel totally safe on board but know they can jump, drive, hunt, have the paces for dressage and will do enough endurance for the recreational rider. Why are they so rare??

Hope you have seen my filly foal..page 3 of latest news!!

Yeah I have =] she's gorgeous! I didn't realise you were in France, must be lovely to have a bit warmer weather for them =] Watched her video and she's a lovely mover, she will do well for you

They are a wonderful breed, although sadly not as common as they should be. Alot of people have a very wrong impression of them and from what Gilly has said to me, the article is very PC compared to her true views.

Will be going up to Gilly's tomorrow, will be nice to tell her the article has reached people outside of Yorkshire, even outside of the UK. It's such a shame that there just aren't as many pure mares or premium stallions any more- good luck to all those who do have one and good luck with any foalings

good to see some people are still out there supporting this breed!

Gilly was 100% correct. I meet loads of people who proceed to make negative statements about the CB. My question is always how many pure-bred CBs have you owned or ridden? Answer 'None'

Watch Her Majesties trot down the course at Royal Ascot or cope with the crowds in the Mall. Watch racehorses being manhandled into starting stalls or read the number of posts on this forum re horses who nap, buck, won't leave the yard etc. etc.

Why does a breed which numbers fewer than 500 in the world get this stupid reputation?

Yeah I know, Gilly once told me about how a certain racehorse trainer [no names mentioned] commented about how CBs are "numb and slow sort of animals" upon seeing Masterful Jack in the wagon. Gilly replied with a rather quick "no, they aren't mug's horses, are they?" He wasn't very impressed. After all- they are what you make them.

TBs are notoriously highly strung; anyone see the John Smith's Maghull Novice's Chase at 2.15 at Aintree this afternoon? Doctor David simply stood there and said no- for no real reason and couldn't be forced either, it would be led without his jockey, but the moment to jockey got back on- it refused to move forwards; then refused to leave the course when he was withdrawn! The one good thing about a great big CB is that when they say no; they probably have a real reason for it- or you asked the question wrong. Not just because it doesn't want to! [Not that I have anything against thoroughbreds- the best horse of my life was a thoroughbred- but even she napped like a good 'un]
