Now thinking of getting one a big change as was previously looking at ether fiord or Icelandic or even maybe a highland. But had a ride on a CB and loved it but don’t know much about the breed so any help much appreciated.

stinkerstonkersmum will help you....but be careful....she is mad about CB's. Literally!

Thay are really good horses, however they can be stubborn particularly from the old " Mulgrave" line, our girl is by 1 of the Rambler line and has a fine head, and is very elegant for a big girl, Mary Wanless wouldn't believe initially that she was CBxTB, becuse she had had CBs and CBxTBs on her courses and they do tend to have a mind of their own!! They can also be a bit insecure in unfamiliar surroundings especially if they don't have Mum or Dad with them, so if you would like a loyal, noble friend, who can exasperate you and then again thrill you and fill you with pride the I wouldn't have any other horse, crossed with a good TB, ie Saddlers Wells,or Bustino dam line are especially good, Imo of course!!!

Hello

I had a pure bred mare in the past and now have CBxTB. Fantastic animals once you have their confidence, but they do seem to be nervous in new surroundings, and be clingy with field mates. However I have always been able to do what i want with mine, just takes a bit more time to get them used to new things. On a positive note, they are good doers, hardy (mine lives out) and have excellent feet (mine works unshod). Also brill jumpers and very good at looking after themselves (and hence you if you are on thier backs). They also seem to have boundless energy, which can obvously work for or against you. I don't think I have ever seen a tired CB and also neither of my CB's have ever been lame. Well muscled up they look fantastic and always seem to have lovely shiny coats. Phew didn't mean to write this much they seem to have more distinctive qualities that I realised.

they are a fantastic breed. I agree that they can be quite stubborn but once you gain their trust they are fantastic. mine is a bit of a loner (doesn't like other horses in her space in the field) very loving towards people but can try and take the pi$$ if you are not consistent and firm with them.
One thing i would say are they are late in maturing, don't mature until 9 or 10.
would certainly have another one.........................
