Cleveland Bays... Seriously! is this a good advertisement for the breed?

Oh bless him, looks poor even if he has got a load of growing to do. What planet are they on with the price though?! Just because he isn't cut it certainly doesn't add to the price and it certainly doesn't mean that he should be a stallion just because he's got the bits.

I'll give her £5 and bring him home to 'feed him up' (on hay only- because thats all he'll need) to get him looking like my boy of a similar age.....

Thats it! I mean, my boy is rising 3 and only VERY lightly covered and is still very much growing but I COULD NO advrtise him for sale looking like that. It really wouldn't take much to improve him...

What a stunner, love those beautiful cb ears!!!
Agree that the poor chap wouldn't need much to get looking good. I know we are short of rain, but goodness it isn't so bad that he should be looking like that. A bale of hay really isn't that expensive if the grazing isn't available. Can't see him flying off to a new home any time soon though.

Thank you! He hasn't quite grown into his ears yet but he's geting there! He's currently standing at about 16.3hh and is not 3 til october!! - eek!

Thats the thing - I'd rather feed a bale of hay to my boy and go without myself. Mine is in during the day because his field is bare and he gets through half a bale a day... it's not much really is it??!!

Wow, a big chap!! I love the large cb ears so hopefully he won't grow into them too much! So nice to see a youngster that isn't roly poly and is so healthy looking.

That is exactly how I feel - I have made the decision to buy a horse and so am responsible for her so if she needs something and I need to go without then so be it. My decision and not something that an animal you are responsible for should suffer for.

Ads like that don't half wind me up I must admit!

It made me particularly mad with the CB being a rare breed and there being a need for a high standard of breeding stock... we shouldn't just be breeding because we have a mare and a 'stallion' look at its conformation too!!!

My boy is all on the wonk behind- legs wise (and it looks like the one in the ad is similar) and if he hadn't already had his balls off he would have done within weeks of me having him!!

grrrrrrrr!

I dunno what's wrong with people sometimes. There has been an appaloosa for sale I ve seen for ages that is non spotty and it says will ride western or English and they are asking £6500!! I'm sure it lovely but come on. Also saw a 13.2hh general riding pony advert Sat. £4000. Eh?

What is the breeding of your boy? I am impressed he looks good for a 2 year old. My stallion didn't look that good at four.

I checked him out and his breeding is excellent. His sire is owned by a member of CBHS breed committee and his dam was bred by the same person. I think you should complain to the breed committee.!!!

His sire's dam is Stainmore Briar Rose - also dam to my lovely Rosemary who is a stunning example of the breed and was a Champion filly foal - in fact H&H gave her half a page at her first foal show.

Having said that two CB's I have bought arrived tucked up and thin. I struggled to put weight on one who is now a different horse. They do grow until they are 6 years of age don't forget.

Am I right in thinking that this photo was taken when he was a foal? Why they think any-one would want to buy from that I can't imagine!

exactly what i was thinking :s
the photograph of him as a foal really doesn't give any indication as to what he looks like now .. why would you advertise a 2 year old with a picture of a 2 month old(if that) foal???

There were several pics yesterday. Perhaps the owner has taken some down after the responses on the forum.

Am I looking at the same picture I can see a tiny foal? I was presuming this was a pic of him when he was born? Feeling a bit stupid but I have to ask!

there were three pictures yesterday - the one there now and two others of him as he is now. Very poor looking to say the least, which is why the owner has presumably removed them. sm x
