Thought I'd put a happy story on the forum. I have a rescued gypsy cob mare whose previous owners left her to starve on a ragwort infested patch of green. We have pulled her back from the brink and she is now of show quality and enjoying life hugely. Comes when called and can melt icebergs with her "come and hug me" look. Anyway, after the hard frost last night the field water trough had frozen over. When she was turned out this morning (after a happy night throwing her water bucket round her stable) she was thirsty so went straight to the trough for a drink. Thick ice on the water so she lifts BOTH front feet up and treads hard into the trough to smash the ice. Steps back out. Surveys her work. Sticks head in for a nicely chilled slurp! Who says cobs aren't intelligent!!!! Anyone interested in hiring her out for next winter on ice-breaking duties, let me know!
