Do any of you clicker train your horses?
I need a bit of inspiration as to what to teach my two.

I have a 17 year old that is almost retired, (not working her till at least spring and if no improvement it will be full retirement)
And I have a 3yo unbacked cob

So far Ive taught them that if they stop mugging Ill click and treat. (the usual introduction), am teaching one if I stand by her shoulder and step back, she must step back. I want to teach carrot stretches and maybe a bow.
Anything else you can think of ?

mmmmm where do I start ........ you can train any aspect of activitiy with horses by clicker training .... even ordinary backing / riding / despooking stuff ;)

however I would hazard a guess that the almost retiree from riding horse will be more into maybe things like horses agility to keep physical and mental activity going a bit ???

and the youngster ..... the world is your oyster as they say, anything and everything from accepting tack, backing up, leading, standing still anywhere (handy for mounting block), walking over / standing on reinforced pallates /pedestal ( great intro to loading) and of course all sorts de spooking.

You can ct them to do scary stuff ... like burst balloons.. this was just a bit of fun for a fundraising demo for a well known charity ;)

the usual progession is to target train first as its easy to do to really get the horse to realise that certain actions make you make a sound and that means they get a reward :D :D :D :D

The target can then be used for walking calmly by side, loading, for teaching tricks like fetch or to go away from you or even to the back of the stable.

You can use target principles train handy stuff .... when I am out on long hacks I get off ( for picnic or just to stretch my legs or for comfort breaks) and get on gates or similar to get back on. I trained Taz to target my fist with her back so she come to me if need be when I am sat on the wall / gate ;)

Have you read any books on CT yet ....... if not its a great idea to do so... or join a CT forum perhaps ;)

anyway I could rabbit on all night about it so maybe if you think about what sort of stuff you want to do and if you have any questions I would be happy to answer them.
