Does anyone else do this? I have been having lessons for a few weeks now and it is going really well despite my initial reservations about giving food rewards. My horse is definitely easier to handle on the ground i.e. picking up feet. I would be interested to hear from anyone else who is using this method.

A friend of mine used it and can now get her horse to pee in a bucket on demand

She swears by it, but to be honest it's a bit circusy for me personally.......... but that's just MO

I've not tried it properly myself but have studied it at uni and it dd look good in some ways although a lot of people on my course were pretty sceptical about it. Out of interest do you just click now or do you use food rewards as well?

I am still using food every time I click. He has to look away or put his head down before he gets the food. He's not allowed to invade my space for treats. He only gets a measly pony cube most times but it seems to keep him very motivated to do what I am asking him.

I've done a bit of it and had a client who was seriously into it. I'm rather of the opinion that anything that's relatively risk free and seems to work is at least worth considering and intergrating into a training system. I've seen some very interesting work with it but I have to say, like all training systems, it takes real concentration on the practicioner's part and there are risks if it's done carelessly/badly.

Oddly, most horsemen I know do a form of it without really intending to. Most people I know have a sounds/words they use for rewarding horses or getting their attention even if they don't know they're doing it. I click at horses when their attention wanders away from me and I've done it as long as I've been paying attention but I certaintly didn't do it conciously at first. It's one of those things people do because it works without really understanding it.
