hello,

I'm probably being paranoid but after googling and reading about arthritis I thought I'd check here.

basically picking up my horses hind left, it clicks loudly. it's not constant and not apparent in work, and I can pick the leg up again afterwards without it making a sound.

she has just turned 6, and loves her work and doesn't trot up lame or appear it in any shape or form. unbalanced in right canter but had the physio out who said she needed to build muscle, she loves jumping and the click is not apparent then, just the occasional albeit loud click picking the leg up to pick her feet out. she seems happy for me to lift it, picking it up herself but seems unbalanced so leans on me a little but nothing major.

just wondering if I am being paranoid before calling the vet to check!

Hello. I had a very similar situation - pony with an occasional clicking hind leg and being slightly unbalanced in one direction. I firstly had the vet out who said that if anything was wrong then it must be very, very minor to only cause these symptoms and probably there was no point in taking it further. Then had a good chiropractor out who diagnosed very mild arthritis (pony is 11). She did acupuncture/manipulation and recommended a joint supplement. Noticed a BIG difference/improvement... so I suppose I'm saying that I would go along the line of having it looked at so if needs be if can hopefully be nipped in the bud, and if it's nothing at all then you'll be able to stop fretting!? :)
