Clicking joints - Arthritis?

My first thread – be kind please......

My 16 year old 14.2 middleweight cob has quite clicky front legs when he's been stood in his stable for a little while. He is a really good do-er but we work hard (diet and exercise) to keep him as trim as possible. No clicking when being ridden, no lameness, happy to work and seems comfortable. He is already on a supplement with glucosamine, msm, chondroitin and hyaluronic acid for support as he injured his check ligament two summers ago. Is this a sign of arthritis? Is it likely to be hurting him? I know my knees click when I bend down these days but it doesn’t hurt me. Can I do anything else to help him? Anyone suggestions or experience?

I don't know the answer to your question really, but if any consolation, both my Welsh Cobs have clicky hocks.

One is 17yrs old and hers have clicked on and off for 15yrs. She's always been fit and sound (apart from silly accidents - so no unexplained lameness)

My youngster is 5yrs old.....doesn't click all the time .... just sometimes......

Not much help really. I guess if this is a new thing maybe you could get your vet to check him over?
 
I can't offer any help sorry but I thought you'd be interested to hear that I have a 15h cob mare whos back legs (fetlock joints) click most of the time.

I don't hear it when I'm leading her in and out but when she was being ridden and also I have been long reining her recently and we actually click click down the road!!

She is really healthy and has never been sore or lame on the rear. I used to give her oil for it but nothing seemed to reduce it.

Be interesting to hear what people come up with :)

I have just spoken to my vet about this as my 11 year old cob x has just started clicking when in the field & when being ridden, despite being on a quality joint supplement.

My vet says not to worry at this point as it can often be air in the joints. I don't really understand what that means or how it happens but the fact he said I shouldn't be too worried about it makes me feel a bit better!

I didn't call him out but if it continues longer term then I definitely will, just to check her over.
 
My 14.2 native cob x has a clicky front leg/shoulder - if he's stood for any length of time in one position it makes a little click when he then moves. As sonjafoers above I've been told it's air in the joints...
 
Thanks for your replies, maybe it’s a cob thing? Have heard clicks on and off for quite a while I guess but it seems much more frequent recently. Having vet out in a couple of weeks for a different reason so will ask him about it then.

Any other ideas anyone?
 
Not going to help much but both my knees click! I am in no pain at all with them! It sounds painful but its not!!

The sound is just annoying!! I believe and have been told just like horses it is air in my joints.
