Just recently Lolas back leg has been clicking as she walks.. :/ I only notice it when I'm in the house.. It's not all the time. Is this worth a vet visit? It doesn't appear to be causing her any pain. What would you do? I am a bit of a hyperchondriac at the moment with my animals thanks to my poorly horse! I am even over analysing my fishes behaviour!

Lurcher (skinny saluki type), 10 months, I cannot pinpoint the noise as its only when she's walking (as in, I flexed the leg and no sound was heard) it's her hind leg, only one of them. It seems to be when she's been lying down for a length of time.

If you're accustomed to watching a horse in trot, can you have someone trot your dog, on a lead, as you would a horse, and see if the gate is in any way uneven, or if there's a difference in the stride length from one side hind to the other. If you're having trouble pin-pointing exactly where the click is coming from, then it's probably her stifle.

Salukis are always skin and bone, it seems to me, so I wouldn't worry about that. Whilst not being slow to grow, they most certainly are slow to develop, so if this "Click" isn't causing her any pain or discomfort, then I'd save your money, because the vet probably wont be able to correct it.

I think that in your shoes, I'd be tempted to restrict her galloping, down to nothing, and effectively put her on "Box rest", so that her exercise is all in hand, and perhaps with a little gain in weight, the problem may resolve itself.

Alec.

I will have a good look at her tomorrow in the daylight - I never thought of that! No, it doesn't seem to cause her any pain. I will rest her and see if it subsides. Thankyou for your reply, it was very helpful and reassuring :).

She hasnt got a luxating patella has she? Does her stifles look normal as she walks? Might be worth a vet visit just to rule anything like that out? x

Usually that type of dog have exemplary skeletal structure ,so I would think a hip or patella problem would be very unlikely indeed.
