I noticed last night when grooming that my boy's neck clicked as he turned to look round at me (was riving about his hay net and eating haylage at the time also), now I'm gong to keep my ears pealed from now on to see if I hear it it again on a regular basis, or if it was a one off occasion like we sometimes click our necks or knees etc

But if I do hear it on regular occasions, what is it exactly, is there anything than could be causing it, or anything I can make sure to prevent it, or any supplement that can help...?

Anyone else got a horse with a clicky neck...are they ok or did you need a back person to come out and check everything was ok etc or re look at your schooling work to even both sides up a bit...any info/suggestions welcomed.

I make my horse do stretches each time before I get on. I put his saddle on first and then make him stretch round past his girth each side and down in between his legs using grass/carrots to make him turn. Don't know why I put the saddle on first, but I feel then he can stretch into it, but don't know if thats total rubbish.

Anyway, his neck will click when he turns on both sides, one side, or neither side each time I do it. I am not worried about this as is what has been recommended by lots of physios etc as something good to do with them before you get on. Plus I figure its nothing that they wouldn't be doing if they had an itch.

Probably wil get shot down for saying i'm not worried about a clicky neck, but mine seems fine, jumps brilliantly and has no problems with his schooling, so I wouldn't worry yourself. Although you could always get a physio out or similar if you are worried.

My mare's shoulders clicked for years when she turned her neck around to look - you could feel the jump under the skin and she even startled herself in the process at times. These days she struggles to turn her neck very far at all (now aged 25) and as she has advanced arthritis in her knees, I can only assume there is arthritis in her neck and shoulders too.
