This is a delicate subject but here goes. If you bought a horse and you suspected seller had withheld information of a pre-existing condition do you think their vet would give you or your vet that information? I think I know the answer but look forward to hearing your views.

Having worked in veterinary practice for many years, I can say that if your vet requested the horse's history, the previous vet would be legally required to hand it over. However, if you were to phone the previous vet and start asking questions, you wouldn't get anywhere and certainly if they thought you were fishing for info to try to find out about the old owner witholding information, they would be very wary about getting involved as they have a duty to protect client confidentiality. Get your vet to give them a call - should be very straight forward especially if it's to do with a condition your vet is now treating.

Can I ask? Whats the protocall if a horse was refered to newmarket or simmilar, by your vet for treatment. And the staff recognised the horse, as in its been there before? Would you need to get your vet to ask? as the previous treatment may be conected to the current condition?

That's a tricky one Scallywag! I reckon you'd need to get your vet/the horse's current vet to contact the previous vet and ask for the medical history as any reports from previous visits to referral clinics would be included.
