I am just wondering how would you be prepared to pay for a training session of 45 mins with a top rider who is highly respected and is in and out fo the h&h, you like their method of training and riding and the lesson is in an indoor school. how much would you be prepared to pay; also it is not a weekly thing just every 6 weeks.
 
If you are talking about Andrew, he charges £50 for 45mins at a clinic

Personally i wouldnt pay it, id rather go to him direct and pay £35 for 45mins!!
 
hi hun, you got it in one, sopke to a lady who had him up in scotland for a clinic and charged 70 pounds including indoor school! the difference is that it is cheaper for us to pay that thna pay to travel to england with horse etc! But do you think people will pay that?
 
well he said he wanted 55 per lesson plus it is 12 for the indoor school per hour so would have to charge 65 per lesson, just wondering if people would be prepared to pay that?
 
It depends what the demand is up there!! Personally ive only ever done a couple of clinics and although they were good id rather go for lessons with someone i can have regularly and pay a bit less if you see what i mean.

Saying that tho, they are really beneficial and its all down to personal preference in the end!
 
know what you mean hun, the demand is higher up here because we just dont have the trainers to suport out talent thus why so many of the young ruders with talent and a good horse move south. Me included, as you know will be moving south and a benefit will be that i will have eaier assess to good resources.
 
I wouldn't pay over £45 but then I don't live in Scotland, and I have a choice of a couple of people. If I were more isolated, and aiming to higher things right now, I may go to £55. Is there any way you could get back to him and knock it down a teeny bit, if you get lots of people?
 
well if we get 8-10 people then it is 50 so then it will only be 60 pounds, i would pay it because i there is no one like him up here really and its not every week plus i have a good horse who would benefit from the lessson
 
There is an Andrew Day clinic around this way in a few weeks and it's £40 Spencer Wilton was here yesterday and it was £55 I think but not certain.

I'd pay max £45 for a one off special treat but £40 as a monthly or every couple of months. I'd spend £40 for a lesson with an hour and a half travelling as we are in the back of beyond so unless there is something on at the University (which there is now the students are back) then that's what's I'd do

We paid £50 for a lesson with Anna Ross-Davies yesterday and it was worth every penny! I also think it was quite reasonable considering her standard. I guess if people have a long way to travel then that has to come into the price.
 
I think I'd pay £60 if i was isolated, as I mentioned... but I'd want a sensible recommendation from a friend or a known local rider who I could see benefitted from him..
 
I take it these are private lessons?! Personally I wouldn't pay over £45-50 and it would have to be someone VERY good for that money... Especially as with clinics I find it tends to be a one off or very infrequent so they need to be a good enough teacher for you to get something worthwhile out of that stand alone 45 minute session.
 
It will be because of the traveling costs that it is so expensive! I have just booked Andrew in for a clinic and it is £45 for 45 mins private lesson as we are only an hour away from him.... what we are doing though is semi-private lessons for an hour then it's only £25 each (maybe that would be an option for you)?

I think the school hire is a bit steep though - we only add on £5 per person for school hire and other costs
 
I guess it must be difficult if you are isolated & having to rely on a clinic, I agree with donadea that it has to be a very good teacher to give you anything to take away from a stand alone 45 minute session. I pay £35 for 45 mins dressage, £40 for 1 hour sj, I agree with Parisienne Girl, would rather pay the money for regular one to one, but if a clinic was my only option I would probably pay a bit more plus the school, as it wouldn't be such a regular expense.
 
One of the girls down our yard organised a Lucinda Green clinic - we had 4 groups on 5/6 people and we each paid £56 each. It was worth it but don't know if I could afford it on a regular basis.

Lucy Thompson only held lessons at a local yard and she was £40 a time

Yes, this is for one to one for 45 minutes... I don't think I could do much longer

These clinics are not infrequent, they are every 2 weeks and once you have a place you are offered every session so you choose whether you would like one every fortnight or once a month.

I have regular lessons with a trainer who is based around here, but I find my lessons with Spencer completely invaluable. He now knows Grace, but because I am not with him every week, he works on something different with us each time. This week, her canter changed within the 45 minutes session, and I do mean it really changed with what we were doing. It gives me such a wider variation of things to work on at home... I can do the things I have been doing with Jo and then incorporate some of the things I have done with Spencer too.
 
I paid £45 for a group lesson (with 4/5 other people..who I didn't know!) and £75 for a single with an international stressage rider. I'd pay it again too as I really enjoyed it and felt the improvement at the end, although I'd only do it once every few months as I pay my instructor £12 for 45mins and I feel I get more enjoyment and progress with that than anything else.
 
count yourselves lucky guys that you pay £40/£50 for a top name.

If I want a private lesson at my RS at the weekend, I have to pay £50!!!! Needless to say, I don't have that many private lessons
