My black horse is very lethargic in warm weather and reluctant to do any work. I'm wondering whether to clip him to see if it'll make him a bit more comfortable, as he's still not lost all of his winter coat (last clip was January).

The problem is I was hoping to do some local shows this summer but with him being a Dales, he's meant to be 'au naturel'. He'll probably not do amazingly well in M+M classes anyway because he's overheight (he's also unregistered which limits the M+M classes we can enter anyway), but we were hoping to do several WH classes. I know he's still meant to be shown in a natural state in WH classes with being a native, but would we get vastly marked down for being clipped?

I am not sure on your questions but will say that i clip my miniature for shows. His coat at this time of year grows very quickly. Here are some pics just taken two weeks apart so you can see how quickly it grows. You wouldnt tell he had been clipped now as it just looks like his summer coat. If your shows are a few weeks off i would say it wouldnt look too bad.

Two weeks ago and clipped two days before
