Hi, Im just in the process of buying a little cob..he is so hairy..i dont think he's had a rug on all winter and he looks like a mammoth..his fur must be 2inches long easy..would you clip him or not..i want to start having lessons on him when i get him home.

I would clip for his comfort if you want to have lessons on him, provided you aren't planning on showing this year.

Clip - I did mine last weekend, took off the front end, from poll to wither and straight down to just behind the girth, and he's so much better for it, much more forward going. We used to have a trad. cob who needed clipping all year round, he would sweat just standing still in the field in summer.

Yes, defo clip.

Just intending to do my shetlands, they have JUST started moulting, but if i dont do it now they will finish moulting about July. Thats 4-5 months of having hair everywhere if i dont. They are much happier after.
