I was wondering if someone could help me...

Someone posted a link to a forum on here recently, and there was a thread about clipping, and all clips seemed to realllly scoop up over the stifle and then almost come down in the same line as the back leg??

http://www.google.co.uk/imgres?q=cl...t=94&ndsp=25&ved=1t:429,r:18,s:94&tx=83&ty=79

Thats the only image I could find on google which kind of shows what I mean.

Is this an american thing? Is there a reason for it??

Thanks!!

I know the norwegians at uni clip legs off to the knee and hock but leave the lower leg hairy. Dont know about the body though.

If you read the next page on the thread it says that it was the girl's first time clipping, and didn't know how far to go on the legs. Think she knows where the lines are now :)

According to that poster's location of "new zulland" i'm guessing they're from New Zealand - and not an American thing. Never saw clips like that in the states. In fact, the only clips I ever saw were either all off naked, usually in the spring to get rid of winter woolies in preparation for upcoming early shows....or just head/face/neck clipped to show off a pretty face on a youngster.

Actually they are a pretty good idea. I do something similar with my oldies sometimes, though not as drastic. It takes off the bits that get really sweaty but leaves the important bits warm

Im not sure but most americans keep show horses well rugged and have strong lights on in the barn for long periods to keep the coats down and very limited cliping dont know about the english riders but thats what the QH/western people seem to do....

Looks like a good idea to me - taking out the most sweaty bits. Personally, I don't follow the norm anyway. Tend to clip depending on where and how much the horse sweats.

i have the hair off on mine down to the hocks- slopes up again to the belly, the front legs are taken off down to the knee and slope up from a point too- all off under the belly and down the inside of the legs to the joint :)
