I'm looking into getting a pair of my own clippers as my hairy cobs feathers never stop growing (grows back everyday 😆 haha) and need to keep his feathers clean and trimmed - itchy boy. What's the best clippers in everyone opinion. Not looking to spend ridiculous . Just something with less noise and does a good job!

Lister Star, good for the money and actually made in the UK, we are selling a lot at the moment. Always popular with first timers and people who clip one or two horses.

I second Lister Star clippers - very good value for money, have had them 3 years now and never any issues. They clip effortlessly through even the thickest cushings pony's coat. Really do rate them, and they're even 'small' enough to go into, and clip the entire head (eyes, muzzle, ears etc).

Another vote for lister star! I have them about 9 years now and they are still going strong (they do get serviced from time to time). They are far, far quieter than some of the other clippers around! I was hired to clip a yard of horses before and I used to do about 2-3 clips a day (was all I could manage before I got too itchy!). A few horses there were known to be nervous and some were headshy with clippers - and they were all grand with the Lister Star.

They are fab medium duty clippers - I wouldn't be expecting to do a large number of horses a day with them! I found that horses do need to be somewhat clean in order to make the blades last longer whereas proper heavy duty clippers could clip through caked in mud.

My clipper man advised me against Liveryman clippers - he says they are made from cheap metal and the liveryman blades are rubbish. He swears by Wolseley for heavy duty clippers. But for me and my little herd (4 horses - one being a very hairy cob!) the Lister Star are ideal! I'd recommend them to everyone :)

Listers are normally very good and have a reputation to maintain as the only manufacturer who produces their own clippers and blades in the UK. The blades are made from quality steel which makes a difference and helps keep an edge. British/German or Swiss steel seems in my opinion to be the best, a lot of the "cheap and nasty" blades made with Chinese steel, do not sharpen as well as those produced from "virgin" steel. When you use recycled steel, you have less control over the end product and thus you get what you pay for. IMHO of course!

Thank you for the information! I think I'm going to go ahead and just buy them, keep worrying about it and putting it off. It all these helpful responses have made me more confident!!

I have the Heiniger progress as they are nice and quiet and lightweight had them ten years and they are still going strong, I only buy the Heiniger blades the cheap ones are no where near as good they are worth the extra money.
