********Clipper help and advice needed***********

Check out Farmcare UK - google them. They have a good range and are cheaper than most. I got my brand new clippers about £70 cheaper than anywhere else.

I also have the heiniger cordless ones and lent them to my friend who used them at her hunt yard all she did was buy an extra battery so she could change over if the charge went down. They were extremely quiet too.

Aaaah "heavy duty" that "old nugget again"!!!

Just a couple of tips re your query, for heavy duty clippers.

You state you would like heavy duty, but also you want "quiet" clippers as one of the horses does not like being clipped..

Alas, the two do not go together, whatever anyone says, I have yet to find a heavy duty clipper, that is quiet. Most clippers classed as "heavy duty" are 275 Watts plus power, which equates to lots of noise..

Many people make the huge mistake of thinking they need heavy duty clippers and then end up in a "world of hurt". The problem which arises tends to be this..the light duty clippers are quieter, yet when the blades start to lose their edge, if you tension them down another notch, the clipper has not got the power to keep them running sweet. Wheras the heavy duty clipper, will let you tighten the tension down, so tight the blades get red hot, but still work. This is then considered to be a positive thing, when in fact a lighter pair of clippers with the user having the correct oil and sharp blades is actually the "best case scenario". The clippers run smooth and cool, causing neither horse nor user problems.

By all means, avoid trimmers with wide blades "dressed up as clippers", but if you want lighter and quieter, consider a lower power machine and buy several sets of blades, so you always have sharp blades ready. Then change the blades when the edge starts to go, rather than when you have wound them down with the mole grips!!! Use a good SAE 30 oil, not wd40/plus gas/blade wash n lube etc and you will clip with ease and not get hot under the collar.

Obviously IMHO of course, but as I regularly see many clippers totally "goosed" by misuse, excess tension etc etc. Perhaps worth a thought.
