Hiya all, this is my first post but Im always on here looking for advice and you lot are great!

Im looking into getting some clippers- liveryman ones. I spoke to some people at Eddie Palin and they said the Harmony would be best (I have issues with tensioning...).

I would be clipping every 6-8 weeks my 17.2hh wbx with either full or blanket clips, would the harmony manage? They said they would...?

Or would I be better to just get the arena and learn to tension properly?

Thank you all sooo much!

Have had a set of Arenas for about 18 years now. Use them on just my own horse and have never had any trouble with them. When I got them the saddlery that sold me them spent some time going through what not and what to do. With the tensioning they said make it tight enough to start clipping and then loosen it off bit by bit to just before it is too loose to carry on clipping. Then adjust as needed during the clip. He also said that running them in a bit of diesel when they get warm got rid of the hair and re-tempered the blades and was quicker than taking apart and oiling mid clip. I find I do not need to do this now and oil as I go along. If you do dip in diesel make sure you wipe off the excess before placing back on the horse as it can irritate those with sensitive skin.

Iam a massive fan of Lister clippers, I have the Lister Neon they are lightweight but powerful and not too noisey. I dont think Lister make the Neon anymore but I think the up to date version is called Lister Star, same thing really. As for saying dip them in diesal to cool them, NO NO NO dont do this any clipper manufacture will tell you this is bad for the clippers so is WD40 and baby oil. I was advised by HCS only use the proper clipper oil combined with the correct tension and you will not go wrong. I follow this advice and it works and I have clipped a lot of horses with the same set of clippers. HCS Clipping and Shearing or Clippersharpe are two very good companies to give advice on buying and looking after clippers.

i have a set of lister liberty clippers and love them i would highley recomend them. i would also say no no to desil you will damage them just buy clipper oil and if in doubt get advice from clipper experts

And an extra 20 no's for diesel!!! Ask your self why they put disposable gloves on the diesel pumps at garages? It's carcinogenic and a "fuel" oil, not a lubricant. The only good thing about diesel and WD40 where clippers are concerned, is I would be out of a job repairing clippers if people actually stopped using it ! But seriously, I think you will need to buy a "proper clipper" for the tasks you have in mind and get the hang of tensioning. I would definitely recommend Clippersharp or HCS for buying a clipper, both have an excellent track record where supplying clippers is concerned. Just make sure you avoid "e Bay bargains" which turn out to be Chinese clippers of very dubious quality. Good luck in your search
