Why would my clippers start 'chewing' the hair? Everything was going fine, they were clipping fine. Then the blades started getting stuck in the hair. Oiled them & they started off ok but then wouldn't cut again.
Tried adjusting the tension, kept oiling but no better. Thought maybe the blades were blunt so put some newly sharpened ones on but same problem.
I've had them a couple of years and always keep them well oiled and use tension as recommended.
Any ideas anyone? I'm assuming its nothing to do with the cold or am I being dumb & should you not clip when its freezing?
GUTTED, s'posed to be going on first hunting outing for 2 yrs after having children. Weather looks good, ground ok and reserved time off babies and now I have a horse that looks ridiculous. Tempted to go anyway!!

have you lost the little roller bit on the head of the clipper? i would imagine that they need servicing if they are a couple of years old. sometimes clippers can chew hair if the hair is very fluffy or cushionoid. i would get them checked and serviced asap.

I had the same problem half way through clipping, after OH not giving very useful comments like 'I told you we should have bought two sets of blades', I re-tensioned the clippers and they were fine. I think I had to tighten them a bit.

I had this yesterday. Stopped clipping mid-arsecheek :mad::mad: Had to pay somebody to finish the job, which was annoying. Wasn't tension, tried everything from loose to as tight as they would go, no difference so would be interested to know. They're off for a service now anyway

Sorry no advice for you but a friend bought a new pair of Liveryman's and had the same problem. She had only managed to clip the shoulder before it started. Needless to say they were sent back but have to be assessed before vendor will consider giving her a replacement set = not a happy purchaser.

I dont know what the outcome has been but would be interested to hear it. Will ask her next time I see her.

Mine did this briefly last week (Heiniger Progress that I bought last year and had only clipped about 5 times). I took out the blades, repositioned them and fiddled with the tension and thankfully fully clipped with no problems. I always store them oiled up and clean them thoroughly after every use. Just hoping it doesnt happen again.

Thanks for replies. Had to buy a new head for them last year, serviced at same time and had only clipped 3 times since. They are heavy duty Hauptners. Everything still appears intact & was chuffed with myself for actually being organised and having the spare blades sharpened and ready to go.
Soooo annoying, last straw was that my darling horse who had stood stock still for 20mins then decided to move in the 30secs I turned my back, trod on the plug and squished it so I have to go and find a new plug to attach before I can try them again.
