I am sure this has been asked before but I can’t find the answers I am looking for specifically.

I am finally getting my own clippers but I wanted recommendations of clippers that are for lighter work. My horse only has a trace clip (blanket max) so don’t need to do hours of clipping, she’s good as gold to clip and loves it so doesn’t need to be quiet.

We have mains so can plug in but just want to hear what clippers/brands you recommend for lighter work as I don’t need a crazy heavy duty/quiet clippers. Or alternatively is it best to get the heavy duty ones and splash out anyway, was thinking ones designed for lighter work may be cheaper. Thank you.

Hi, if you have a look at dog clippers that will take a wide a5 blade then they should do what you need. Something like Andis AGC two speed. I have used clippers such as these successfully for many years, my current set are Aesculap Durati battery powered ones and they will do a full clip on one horse without running out of charge.

To add I bought my clippers refurbished from the manufacturer and they were 1/3 of the price of brand new, although they were basically new anyway!

I really like my Clipperman Crest trimmers for smaller clips and younger/nervous horses. They're fairly small, but they're mains powered so a bit more powerful than rechargeable trimmers. Can do an Irish type clip with them in about 20 minutes and I find they leave a lovely finish.

They cost me around £80 about 8 years ago, not sure what they cost now 🤔
