I'm looking at changing my clippers and probably going back to mains clippers. I have the Heineger Xplorers but i'm not that overly impressed with them. They don't clip anywhere near as close as I'd like, I've played around with blades and tension and they leave so many lines and bumps. The battery ran out after 1.5 hours so then used my friends mains clippers to finish off and they were sooo much faster and clipped so much better! I'm not in any rush to change but what do you all recommend? I fully clip every 4-6 week in the winter and I trim trail and feathers every 4 weeks or so through the summer.

I have sone 25 year old mains Listers, still going strong.

I've bought the cordless Lister too, works very well.

Clipping close is usually about the blades though. Are yours 'fine'? I use coarse because I'm clipping for comfort but want to leave a bit of coat on. It isn't neat and does leave lines.

Do not get clip on blades - they are a pain in the arse. Too much to go wrong vs my 30 year old Wolseley Swifts which are serviced and keep going strong.
I have to say my clip on ones are battery which is great vs electric cord but will depend on your budget.

I also really like my Lister stars. Certainly wouldn't say they are the best you can get but I only clip one (hairy native) 2-3 times a year and they have always been fab.

Only thing I will say is they are pretty noisy - not a problem for me but know it is for some people. You also have to oil them often otherwise they over heat but I've always done this and never had an issue. People that don't find they start to get problems
