Just a quick question re above, took my clippers in to my local tackshop to send away for their first service and 3 pairs of blades sharpening.

They tack shop said they must contact me first with a quote from the clipper firm to confirm how much it will cost before they will tell them to continue with the repairs, I said no worries you don't have to ring me, just tell them to do it...if they need repairing then they need repairing but they said no we have to ring you first to make sure your ok with the quote.

So roughly how much could it cost...worst case senario? £100's or pounds?

or £50 to £70?

Am I going to be in a shock when they ring me with the quote?
Its not like they were broken or anything just seemed to over head a bit too quickly and well just the fact that I wanted them to have a service.

Mine were over heating - had new tensioning screw and pin for that and solved the issue and a service and clean was 35 inc postage

Hi Ester, that sounds cheap !! where did you get yours done , i am in the Somerset area , or did you have them done direct with the manufacturer ?

sorry to butt in !!

Thanks ester, oh well thats ok, they just worried me bit, I wondering if it would of been cheaper to buy some new clippers lol!

Although I'm far too tight to send mine off to be serviced. I got the OH to dismantle them and clean out all the hair, grease everything that needed greasing and put them back together. And they still work

! I'm figuring that's all they'd do if I sent them for a service anyway.

Well my OH did offer to service them for me come to think of it...he offered after I took them in, because I never told him I was taking them in...so he wouldnt be able to get his greesy mits on them!, thought it might of been the safer option lol, ok he's a mechanic but I don't think I'd trust him with my clippers, car yes, clippers NO

my blades cost £7 i think to sharpen and im in a very fortunate situation that my dad services my clippers for me so it hardly costs me anything - just a box of 2 of thorntons special toffee when i get them back

i too was like you, whinging that i need to send them somewhere to fix the cable that my mare had stood on and that i need them servicing. id left them in the hall way, forgot about them till my dad demanded paying - came in holding fixed cable and serviced clippers - so off i toddled to throntons.

i cant see that its going to cost you a fortune - i would like to think that the casing has hair in it so thats why its over heating, but thats my thiniking.

Most places average £25 to £30 for a service, plus the cost of any parts. Normally in the first 3 years it is only service charges, but as they get older, things tend to increase. This year, on average I would say a service through my firm is £50 to £60, which includes one set of blades sharpened foc included in the service. Also we tend to contact the shop, or the customer if it is going to be over £65, whether they have asked for a quote or not, merely out of courtesy. You also must bear in mind, that some parts for older clippers are now no longer available, so I find it best to advise the customer, so they can make an informed decision. I know personally, I would not want to spend £80 on having a clipper repaired, that maybe in three months time would go wrong and be un repairable. Some times you have to "bite the bullet" and buy new. Good luck anyway, hope whoever they went to sorts you out...
