ive got a set of liveryman clippers. i bought them new in 2001 and they've done one(ish) full clip some winters (i havent clipped every year) im the only one who's used them and they've always been well oiled, never dropped and looked after.

Anyway 2 years ago i came to clip and they did, but they'd slow down slightly and get full power again (they did this afew times, but didnt completely stop and it was only slight) however the problems started if i switched them off for a pause (re-oil/check lines etc) they then wouldnt switch back on:(. I thought it was the extension lead, so plugged directly into the plug socket, but they would get going again. I got an electrician friend to have alook and he couldnt see anything obvious, but some connections wasnt looking so great, so he re-did those they they worked again, but i didnt need to use them again that year.

Got the clippers out last year and the same thing again, worked for while, but as soon as i switched them on/off afew times they stopped again. Friend had another look and replaced the cable and once again they worked:o.

Then came to do a bib clip today and they worked fine, until once again i switched them off afew times, they refused to switch back on :( They arent to hot and it dont 'cut out' as such, its when you switch them off, they dont switch back on. I must have switched them on 3 times and then the 4th, they just dont start again.

I cant decide if to send them to a proper clipper repair place (i believe its not cheap) for cut my losses and pay someone to clip him once a year!! problem is, is that i enjoy doing him myself! Has anyone ever had anything similar happen to there clippers? was it expensive to repair?

I have some lister clippers that turned on but cut out as soon as you started to clip (the safety button popped out). I sent them away to alan Talbot Clippers in Buxton and he mended them (new pcb I think). It cost me about £60 as far as I can remember.
