I manage quite well with "dog" clippers and a wide blade (just for my own horse), I have just bought a pair of aesculap Durati battery ones which were fine. I think that these would be classed as light or medium duty clippers for horses.

I use my Wahl dog trimmers for heads, I'm new to 'big' clippers and actually couldn't do their heads with them. There are plenty around and not too expensive.
I use them on all fiddly bits, round sheath, between back legs and elbows (bloody elbows!!!!).

Mine are still going after 30 years - I shouldn't say that it will tempt fete.....
I wouldn't attempt a body with them unless the horse has a very fine coat and then they would be OK.
I did a bib clip on a friends horse recently in about 3 minutes

I use both clippers and trimmers.

I use my clippers to do the body and up to the poll and under the chin and then the trimmers to finish the head off and neaten it up.

I have HD Roamers for my clippers and although they are a bit heavy to hold they are great for a thick coat.

I have the Clipperman Joust. It's described as a trimmer but it's more heavy duty than the last trimmer I had. I have done an apron clip (in about October so on the start of a winter coat) with them and they were great - they came with a wide blade and a normal blade and the wide blade worked really well. I don't know if they'd do a full winter coat but that's on hairy Irish types. They come with two batteries so you never run out of charge, you can just swap the batteries over and have one charging and one running and the blades can be sharpened (the blades on some trimmers can't). The only slight issue with them is they're quite long so it can be hard to do fetlocks with them as the end hits the ground before the blade gets to the right position. I have to lift their legs to get in all the nooks and crannies.

I have the liveryman Nova trimmers, and they're pretty awesome. I've been doing neck/apron trims on hairy cobs with no issues at all, and they have a built in length adjuster which is handy.
They're classed as medium duty, and I don't see why they wouldn't do a full clip on a TB. Good running time too, about 6 hrs on a full charge according to the box (not that I've gotten anywhere near that limit haha!)

I bought some Liveryman Harmony Plus clippers which are medium duty cordless clippers and they're fab for full body clipping and face trimming. Will be getting rid of my heavy duty clippers as they're utterly pointless in comparison.

liveryman classics should do the job just fine. it will take longer than with bigger clippers but can’t see any other problems.

If I can clip a sheep for a caesarean with them (although have to do 2 passes) I’m pretty sure they’ll get through any coat ?

I just bought some of these and I am so impressed. I originally bought them just to do the head/around ears as my boy needs sleepy juice for that part. Mine came with the wide blade (2.4mm cut) and they were so easy I carried on and have done the whole body now. Just ordering a second set of the blades. Easy to clean and they don't get hot.

I have managed to do hunter clips with Liveryman Harmony clippers with a wide blade.

I have big clippers now which are quicker but the harmony are perfect for the fiddly bits. I wouldn't bother with the big clippers if I was just doing a bib clip or similar.

I have some Liveryman element trimmers too. I wouldn't attempt to do more than trimming beards, heels, ears etc with them.
