Hi,
I'm looking for a cheap pair of clippers to cut my Appy x Tb a Hunter clip.. shes 14.2 and fairly fluffy.
I dont want to spend over £100, as its only to clip one pony.
I am looking at the Liveryman Classic Trimmers (£60) or the Liveryman Element Rechargeable Trimmer (£50)
Will they cope?

Many thanks!

unless she doesnt grow much coat i wouldnt go for anything that says 'trimmer' these are generally for faces ears and little niggly bits. one of my old bosses at one point only had a pair of moser avalon clippers and it took me a whole day/7hours to clip two big horses (hunter/full) with them, i wanted to die of boredom! it just took so long!

assuming your horse is okay being clipped i would get a reasonably heavy duty pair just makes it so much quicker! you dont have to buy new see whats out there second hand you'll get mroe for your money tht way! i just picked up a pair of nearly new Lister Liberty with the Battery pack for £150 ith an RRP of £330 from a car boot sale, used them last night and did a complete full clip whole face and ears with them in 45mins :D, and a friend got a pair of older liverymans a few years ago with 3 sets of blades for £50 from the classifieds and they are still going!

im not that patient with clipping so like to get it done ASAP! Bigger Clippers = Quicker Clip! (generally)

I did my mare a bib/belly/neck/half head with the Liveryman Element. It was surprisingly ok, but very, very slow!

How was the clip, good? Thing is i usually do a hunter clip. The liveryman element are cheaper, does that suggest they are lower quality? The other ones I mentioned have a 10 hour battery life and clipping speed of 5000, same as some of the big clippers..

Yes it was a nice job in the end. I only used the trimmers as they are so quiet and was told she is fussy with clippers.

I have some Liveryman Arenas which are years old but excellent. The quality of the Element is also excellent, they are just trimmers though. Apart from anything else the blades are only half the width of my clippers!

With a young horse, and not much to clip the Element was an excellent compromise. Quiet, cordless and a good result.

For removing more coat and speed, I would use my normal clippers anyday

ETS I bought my Arena clippers in 1990 I think and they are bombproof! Don't know how well the Element will last as yet!

Certainly wouldn't use trimmers to do a full or hunter clip... I've used Liveryman Harmony's for full clips the last few years, and they were ok. However I have just treated myself to a new set of Lister Liberty's and they were way quicker! Did a full clip on Monday including head and legs in under an hour. Using the Harmony's it took me about 1 1/2 hours, and I think using those tiny trimmers it would take me years!!!

You will be surprised how quickly they pay for themselves, even with just one horse. My Harmony's paid for themselves in the first winter.

Trimmers wouldn't do a hunter clip i shouldn't think as they are designed to do small things like beards, etc! We have the liveryman harmony ones (cordless clippers) and they're alright, wouldn't do a really hairy one though! just about managed to do a hunter with those last year

I use Wahl Artiko clippers (£120) to do my one horse. A full clip excluding legs and face takes me about 40 minutes. They're light, maneuverable and really easy to use :)

I've still got my old Liveryman Mustangs and they are still fine, nice sturdy old things.

I've got some of the Liveryman Flare trimmers though and they are a serious waste of time, wouldn't bother with those to anyone looking, complete rubbish.

I did do a clip once with more heavy duty trimmers, but looking back at an old photo, omg it looked like I'd chewed the hair off, lol!

I wouldn't get rechargeable for doing a proper clip unless they are the sort with a battery pack or the option to plug in as well, nothing worse than running out of power and having to leave them charging for ages.

The Liveryman Classic is one of the best trimmers on the market today but it is a trimmer. On a fine or light coat it will give a clip but it will take its time as the blade width is half that of full size clippers.
Also remember that the classic and element blades can NOT be re sharpened so when they are blunt they have to be replaced adding to the log term cost
The New Harmony PLUS ( also shown as harmony + ) is good value uses a wide selection of blades and has a lot more power than a trimmer cost is about £135.00

Thanks for all the replies, huge help!
I have decided between the 2.. Both second hand, Either Heiniger Handy horse clippers (5yr old sold by a clipping company and with 6 months warrenty) or the Liveryman Arenas (6yr old).. These Can anyone help me side? Both the same price.. Im siding with Heinigers at the moment? OR a new pair of Liveryman Harmony Plus?

Sorry to hijack, but what is the difference between the Harmony and Harmony Plus? Other than the mains version of the Plus being about £90 more expensive? (The cheapest version of the plus is the rechargeable and am not particularly keen...)

Not heard of the harmony plus, I just have the normal harmony clippers. Cordless and super quiet I love 'em. Managed a hunter clip on my extremely hairy welsh D mare last Jan, though I didn't groom her as well as I could have so the wide blades went blunt! Never got round to having them sharpened either so will be using the narrow blades when I clip in next couple weeks ..

My main clippers are the Liveryman Arena, they have to be 23 years old. I bought them new, have had them serviced once, and they have never let me down.

They are pretty noisy by modern standards though.

I have liveryman harmony clippers, they do my appy x native who has quite a thick coat absolutely fine.

I am looking to get a pair of moser avalon when can afford it simply as have heard they are super quiet, and my other horse is a wuss about clipping but will be hanging onto the harmony ones.

I have been offered a new pair of liveryman harmony for £80,
liveryman arena (4yr old) for £109 and heiniger for £120.. it's only to clip my own mainly but unsure what to get! Want something cost effective but long lasting! Help?

I've seen those advertised, how do they compare to the Liveryman Harmony/Calypso being roughly the same kind of price?

I did 4 full clips on my 13., two full clips on a 15.2 and 3 chaser clips last year with one set of blade. The blade still good now and will be using again for the ponys full clip end of the month.

They are light weight, and quiet. Speed wize it took 45 mins to full clip the pony....

I fund the liveryman quite heavy and bulky - as i only have small hands so the Artiko work well for me. they are mains powered - but they do a battery pack version - but they are a little weaker on power and speed.

Ooooh, may try those then... have heard mixed reviews about the Liveryman cheapies, and whilst I don't need heavy duty I would like something that won't just chew my TB's and 2 ISH's coats! Will consider those then!!

They glide through the ponies super thick coat with ease i do wash beogre xlipping tho ?? as long as you remember to oil every ten mins they are fabulous x i did need to redt them for half hour between clips but then i also needed a rest and a cuppa ;)
