After clipping my daughters hairy cob out over the winter and being very pleased with both his smartness and his obvious pleasure sans yak like hair ie much more forward going and less scratchy I would really like to clip him out again as his coat is coming back quite coarse and wiry and his feathers are back to look to looking scruffy.

Sooo what happens to his summer coat if I clip now? Will his summer coat be ruined? His summer coat is still quite think ( he is 23 so he takes a longer time to shed it and grows a new winter coat really quickly. And if I don't clip him out completely how can I clip his feathers off but make them look natural?

He also suffers sweetitch so wears a SI rug during the summer and has lots of bath so can only really see the positives of clipping at e moment.... Any thoughts gratefully appreciated!

Lots of horses are clipped all year. We have a gorgeous hairy cob on our yard who looks like a yak without clipping. He does have cushings but is much happier clipped.

Go for it.

My boy was clipped and much better for it. I kept his mane hogged and trimmed his feathers and it kept him looking very smart, fuzz free and not looking like a yak (which he had a tendency to do, as well as moult for Britain). Some traditionalists like the free flowing mane and feathers, but from a practical point of view, keeping him clipped, hogged and trimmed worked for me.
