Hi

I have a 26ish yr old connemara x tb, who is very hardy, she lives out all year round, however this winter I will be putting her in when it gets really bad out but just in a field shelter because she gets very stressed when stabled.

The last few years she seems to be turning in to a woolly monster, I always clip her around the end of sept and every month until Jan as she has the thickest coat I have ever seen, I think she is of the opinion that she is a Shetland pony.

Anyway, she still have a pretty thick summer coat and is very itchy, she often follows me around the field wanting to be itched on her neck and withers, and I wonder if I would be mean if I clipped her all year round at her age as she is living out? does anyone else do this to their horses?

Also she might be 26 but is a fit as anything and has the mind of a 4 year old!

Thanks

You could clip but go with the direction of the hair,so if it turns windy and wet there will still be some protection.Hate seeing horses out in this hot spell rugged up,it must be awful for them.

ah okay, thats a good idea, never thought of doing it in the same direction actually!! good plan!! no I am the same I hate the way people rug their horses, its like they don't realise the horse has a coat of hair haha!!
