Sorry i'm sure this has been done before, but can't seem to find much help!

I've been asked by my friends other half to look at clippers he can buy her for birthday. Well, i'm clueless (as is she!) in the world of clipping, we've always had someone else to do Chunks, but since moving yards no longer have this luxury. He only get a small bib clip to stop him over heating once or twice a year, so can't justify making him pay a fortune for them, so have a budget of around £100-150. I've been looking but have no idea of what is good or bad! He's got an enormously thick coat so need something not too delicate (which i guess puts the price up!)

Sooo, once we have said clippers, are they fairly self-explanatory to use? I clip my dog with Andis clippers but they have clip on blades so are easy!

Are there any tips you can give us before we skin the poor monster?! Any help or advice greatly welcomed! Thanks!

You will need to up your budget, anything in your price range will be trimmers which won't do the job on a tick coat.

If your horse is good to clip and doesn't mind noise then masterclip clippers are your cheapest of any use.

You will needmains electrics and keep them well oiled. Keep checking whilst clipping the blades aren't getting hot and clean well after use, esp the air filter. Clip less than you want at first, you can always take more off but can't put it back!. Brush well before clipping as dust, mud and greese will kill your blades! Tention on your clippers is key. See if you can find someone to help you first time.

Thank you, will look at the masterclip ones and see if I can up his budget, just frustrating knowing how little they will be used!

I use these to clip the dog, I know you can get the same clippers with horsey blades too, do you think it's worth a shot buying the blades for these and having a go first before buying new clippers or will these never be good enough for a horse?

Thank you

I got liveryman harmony clippers, about 180 ish pounds i think they cost me if not less which included 3 blades and battery pack etc
The wide 2.4 m blades are rubbish but the other 2 are fab and cut through pretty much any hair feathers mane very thick welshy coat. Love them and they're cordless/quiet!
