Horse has been off work due to other commitments for about 6 weeks. Has been clipped twice this year already - everything off bar legs and half a face. Clip has grown into thickish 'floof' so planned to re-do clip yesterday in preparation for return to work. Horse rugged and clean if a bit greasy.

Started clipping, fine. 15mins in clippers then stopped clipping. As though blades blunt. Just ruffling hair into a little pile but not clipping.

Called friend who brings her new clippers over, 2 sets of sharp blades. Here is where it gets weird. Can clip any hair that has not been previously clipped. Clippers powered through thick leg hair (legs coming off this time) and feather. As soon as clippers hit coat that is prev clipped they will not clip it - blades act as if blunt.

Assume horse is too greasy even though doesn't look to be. Stop clipping, wash (shampoo) horse and dry. Several hours later, horse is warm and dry and appears grease-free. Coat shiny and smooth. Start clipping again. Same issue. Clippers will clip any 'long' hair that has not prev been clipped but no shorter hair.

Horse now has weird inverse clip. Legs are neatly naked. Body area fluffy and impervious to blades!

Managed to clip bottom and a few bits of sides with clippers held at a bizarre downward pointing angle.

What is going on ?

Yes, many many times! Very frustrating!

As above, clippers will clip any hair that was not part of the previous clip perfectly but if I try to clip the areas previously clipped the blades act blunt :(

Areas prev clipped are all the rugged bits. Has this got anything to do with clipping ?

Been clipping for years and years and never come across this before!

:D

Will take some pics today - if I can bring myself to show them in public!

Friend has suggested that hair is too dense and fine for normal A2 blades, has somehow grown back superfine and that a need finer blades to clip so will try that today!
