Clipping in order to rug??

I would quite happily clip a horse to rug/keep clean for riding purposes.
If the horse was out 24/7 I would aim to leave a blanket on.
This! I can’t imagine how people can ride an un clipped unrugged horse all winter. I’d also not want to rug a horse who didn’t require one as imo there’s nothing worse than being hot.
So yes, I’d absolutely clip to rug.

Mine live out 24/7 and I’ve always clipped and rugged otherwise it’s impossible to give them any work and keep them comfortable. Usually do an Irish clip so leave the back on for extra warmth and rug according to weather but generally only a no fill or 50g then at least they are easier to keep clean to ride
