I can't decide whether to clip my boy or not....he's really getting very hairy but the weather is so dreadful that we can't get any riding in, and because it's so cold I feel a bit mean - he has a hunter clip.

I know I have to get the clippers out because he's hogged and is starting to look a bit like Elvis as my daughter put it, and I need to get him clipped again before I go back to work in Jan....

What do I do??

I usually fully clip all year round (VERY hairy horse!) but in the weature i have just given him a chaser and left his legs on (Usally take them off). Maybe blanket to keep his back warmer?

If your not exercising him then what is the point in clipping right now? I gave my boy a full clip 4 weeks ago before the snow came so have been rugging appropriately but if I hadnt managed to clip then, I would be leaving it until the snow has thawed and I could ride. Can you wait till then to clip?

Mine has grown her chaser clip back practically completely and is looking rather like an old teddy bear but cos I just can t ride as no school and snowy roads it means I am just going to leave her.
If weather is anything like last year, it'll be gone hopefully end of jan and we will have a school in by then anyway so i'll clip her then.

I haven't clipped at all, my lad is still out 24/7. The problem I (and I know I'm not alone) have is that when I do manage a ride, he sweats loads, and then I have to chuck him back out in the field. I always bring him home cool, but I'd rather he wasn't sopping wet, so I think he's going to have a elongated bib soon, extended over his shoulders and back beyond the girth.
