Has anyone successfully used a natural horsemanship person to overcome clipping issues? How did it go and was the horse ok to clip the following year?

No but I've watched Michael Peace get a horse clearly terrified of clippers to allow him to run the clippers (turned on) over a horse in the space of about half an hour.

I think depending on the issue it's a good route to go down (if it's ticklish skin though then I wouldn't know what to do?)

Well I think it has got to be worth a try and must be cheaper than sedation in the long run? Mine is still dangerous even heavily sedated.

Yes. My friend used to have to sedate her horse to have it clipped. Had someone out (same friend discussed other day with barefoot horse - incidentially was also the same person that trims for her) and showed us what to do. It did work and we managed to clip him ourselves, Was still dodgy when you got around his head but she could live with that. This was only this year so cant comment on what he will be like next time.

I haven't seen a professional do it but I've certainly had several successes using the principles. Get hold of the Wahl DVD called 'Think Equus - Approach to Clipping' (Michael Peace). I'm not a huge fan of this guy but the approach on the dvd definitely works.

Definitely try it, I've got a mare who was petrified of being clipped. I followed NH methods and she's 100% better. I still have problems around her head and she'll only let me do it. A lot of it is down to trust as well.

friends horse is currently having sessions with a NH trainer for clipping. He was a night mare - rearing etc really bad. he is really really good now. Still not 100% but loads better than he was.
Suppose it will only work if the owner is happy to put the effort in and keep practicing with the horse rather than leaving it till when the horse needs clipping. My friends horse is a show cob so she will be trimming, hogging very regular so will be alright for her.

If id have known about this lady before Ebi was retired i would certainly go down this path

I have never clipped although I would have a go if he were not so frightened

It is one of Kelly Marks people I have contacted

Amy used to have be sedated to clip. The answer was to do it myself. She knew and trusted me so the whole thing stopped being an issue.

I would give it ago before you start throwing money around. It's more than likely a trust issue.

i clip all mine myself and Ebi has always been a t**t. shes not much better even when shes had a huge amount of sedation.

I just have to show him the clippers, they don't even need to be switched on and as soon as he realises what they are he gets very aggressive. Ears back, teeth bared, threatens to rear, lunges at me. Even when I have put them away he still carries on like this everytime he sees me or if someone else is clipping and someone approaches him, same thing
