It's not a major issue, just more of a pondering really but just wondered your thoughts.
Badger is not the best horse to clip. He gets ticklish around his back end/tummy and kicks out. He's ok for the rest of it. I'm no expert clipper but have done him before, managed fine but you just have to be very aware around his back end.
Anyway, I really really hate clipping!!! I have a dust allergy and it just makes me feel so ill!! So asked YO to sort it out with the groom. £30 well spent I thought. YO knows what he's like because she did him last year.
I randomly turned up at yard and they were just getting down to the nitty gritty bit he doesn't like. He was going pretty bonkers!! Really lashing out a lot!! I'm not sure the girl had the best technique, was stabbing at him a bit rather than getting it flush with his skin, if that makes sense? Although this could well be through fear of getting booted!! Don't blame her TBH!! She stopped because she said the clippers were hot so we stood and chatted for 5. She gave me the clippers to hold while she went and did something and they were really red hot!!! I also noticed he'd got a bit of a cut on that bit of flappy skin between their bum and tummy. Thought I may as well take over if I was going to get covered in hair, and only seemed fair for him to kick me than anyone else!
But when I started he was fine!!! He still lifted his leg the odd time but was no where near what he was like!
So I'm not sure if it was because she was doing it a bit wrong, because she'd nicked him and he's got upset, because the clippers were too hot or if he just didn't like someone he didn't know doing it? Or a combo of any of the above??
Not blaming the girl at all, she did well to carry on! But was left feeling a bit sorry for my pony.
