Can somebody tell me the pro's and con's of doing a full clip and taking off the legs? Thanks

I always take my lads legs off for the following reasons:
1: Easier to see if any small nicks/cuts and deal with them easier (saves having to shave round them at the time if it's nasty)
2: He's never had mud fever since I took his legs off - mud dries on the short fur alot quicker and brushes off easily.
3: If mud is still wet it can be hosed off and legs dried completely and more quickly
4: He looks horrid with legs left on! He's black, goes a silvery black (if that makes sense) when clipped and dark legs make his legs look really short!
5: Personally have never found a pro of leaving legs on - unless of course your horse objects to legs being clipped and boots you.

All of the above for taking them off
For leaving them on, protection( if hunting ect) warmth, and really your horse would look a bit silly with legs off if he only had a trace clip ect!

I always leave them on - my horse gets turned out every day and you don't get rugs which cover their legs! She's a wimpy tb so wouldn't thank me for clipping them off!

i always take the legs out, as his flares get in the way when he is jumping, plus all of the above of course, it is a pain though he hates his legs done and i always have to revert to a twitch, he kicked me it the head the other week, ouch

this is an interesting post my pony has 'legs on' at the mo but planning on taking them off at the w/end

My horse has his legs off, for the same reasons as above, plus he looks alot smarter, as they get so hairy. He hunts too.

I also clipped out my horses completely - no legs!
Far easier to see if a horse has a cut, preventing mud fever, the legs dry quicker and of course they horses look far smarter.
I pop boots on my horses when i hunt anyway to help protect them

oooh.... I can't be bothered with the faffing involved. I leave head and legs on, and clip everywhere else. He tends not to get a sweaty head or legs!!! And being TB his fur isn't exactly FLUFFY!!!

I clip all the hair off the back of the fore-legs; sounds weird but its a good compromise, as their legs don't get so chilly, but easier to dry/clean and I dont end up with irish bog pony, full feather syndrome.
But I always find takin legs off makes them more susceptible to mud fever, i know their legs are easier to clean dry, but clipping and then turning out seems to irritate it.
