I have a 14.2hh Welsh x pony who I am competing at PN level events. I have a two day event in a few weeks time and his his coat is so long that it is hard to get him fit without getting sweaty. Would it be OK if I clipped him now or would it mess up his summer coat.
TBH i think he really needs it.

our shetland always has lots of coat so i clip him using a guard (about grade 3!) so it takes the length from his coat but doesn;t ruin the nice summer coat coming underneath works v well.

ive just clipped my connemara who is eventing pn - his summer coat is way too thick, and its really helped him. you dont really need to worry about 'ruining' his summer coat unless you're showing or something?? mine looks a hundred times smarter now hes been clipped!
