my 3 year old bitch came to me with the perfect hair cut but now her hair is getting quite long. I turned on small electric shaver to see how she'd react and she completely freaked. She was terrified of them.

I am wondering how on earth they clipped her before. Over the next few weeks I plan on trying to de sensitise her to the clippers gradually , lettting her get used to them and keeping her calm. wondered if anyone has any other tips? I am used to dealing with horses not scared doggies.

I cant take my 3 yr old Springer to the groomers so I have to do him myself.

I use the WAHL proseries clipper. I firstly got the clipper and slowly ran it slowly over him but I didnt turn it on. Then after doing that a few times I put it on and did the same as above just so he could get use to the noise and the vibration.

When it was time to actually cut his coat, I took him out for a good run first to take the edge off him, my OH was armed with chicken and he was okay but still a bit wary. He did look like a badly sheared sheep for a bit though!

Now after doing that a few times I can do it without the treats and he rolls on his side waiting to be done. Now I just need to work on him standing on all fours to do it.

Its a bit long winded but at least I know he isnt under any stress.
