My mare is moulting her summer coat early this year and as begun to grow her winter coat, yesterday on our usual hack she sweated up quite bad. So today I am going to do a full clip on her, is anyone else having to clip early this year. She is a coloured cob and 22 so I thought it could just be another sign that age is creeping up on her, untill I groomed my yearling filly who is also moulting. It feels like such a short summer

I was horrified the other day when I noticed that all of a sudden my boy is getting wooly on his neck and chest. My clippers have had it (they do work but seem to struggle despite having been serviced and the blades sharpened) and I hate clipping but can't really afford to pay someone to clip for me. Agggghhhhh!

My boys are moulting at the moment!! I won't be clipping mine until the end of November. But this is because he only has one clip a year as he has to be sedated and it is quite expensive and also I don't like to put him through it anymore than necessary as he doesn't like it.

Yeah my horse is the same. She in a boxrest field during the day and in at night. If in a few weeks time the vet says we have to continue on with this for another 6 weeks or so then Im tempted to clip her as she then wont be turned out 24/7 for rest of summer.

My two cobs are moulting but I won't clip them until October, it saves a lot of hassle worrying about rugs etc. They can stay naked until they get clipped.

My wb x mare only just lost last bit of winter coat on her bum right at the end of july!!!! Shes now got the fluffed up summer coat look :-( My tb is still nice & summer coaty. Poor horses, I guess, like us half the time they don't know what season we are in  !!!! Think i'll prob clip sometime in sept ready for fun rides & hunter trials.

Well I back from clipping my mare, only did a blanket clip on her in the end as I am pretty sure after hearing the blades rattle a bit that a full clip would not be completed. However like another poster said above with this clip no rug will be needed, I only really clip areas where I know she will sweat. But with it being so early to start clipping the idea of a full clip sounded a good idea at the time, the clippers blades however did not.

'Good bye summer' - I don't really remember it arriving! :( Actually, I do - it was in April!

Hugo gets a very woolly winter coat and he was out 24/7 last year (rugged up). However, he does get very sweaty when working and we were talking about clipping him only today. I think we will have to; at least a blanket or something. He has just started to lose his (lovely, shiny) summer coat and the 'wool' is arriving :( , so won't be long, I suppose. Dreading it - he really did not like the mini-trim we did under his chin last year!

It's not early if you clip according to need rather than season - if your horse is uncomfortable, clip it! :)

And my two are also getting hairy, too. Thankfully no clipping needed as neither will be in work this winter, but both always need rugging so will soon be rugged to the eyeballs to stop the mega fluff!

Glad it's not just me, feel better now. Was thinking today, after a huge grroming session to get any kind of shine, of doing a half clip. Got spons ride end September so will hang off until the week before that, or even the day before, if we can !!

rode today and he was a sweaty betty to say the least !!

Maybe the horses know something we dont about the forth coming winter :-( Last year my TB x Connemara started shedding about now and he grew a seriously wooly coat and look what a winter we had!

Yes the nights are drawing in, but I also think animals have a greater sense of the weather than we give them credit for. ( and yes, he's got the first layer allready!)
