clipping tails

I do, but i only clip the sides not the dock. People regularly ask me if i will pull their horses tails, and then when i tell i clip it they are quite shocked.

If done right it looks nice

clipped tails look horrible - just like bog brushes!!

It doesn't take long to pull them properly! Or at least use a rake.

A pulled tail is the finishing touch to a properly turned out horse :)

Not if you leave the middle untouched and feather in the sides.

I used to do it years ago on my dressage horse, as he would not allow me to pull his tail. It did look really neat, I promise! There are better tools available to do the job now, I believe, but I prefer to leave tails full and natural these days, so have never used them.

I do mine with clippers and have been complimented on how lovely pulled it is ha ha no one ever believes it's clipped.

I shave only the sides, and come in from the top kinda like a V it's hard to explain

I will get a photo and put it on.

If it's done right I think it looks really nice.

I hate plaited tails or worse natural at a competition , for me a pulled tail is a must. I think it's smart.

I clip mine and have had loads of compliments and people asking if I pull.it myself followed by looks of disbelief when I say It's clipped. I never dared take clippers to a tail though until I saw it done by a pro so I knew the technique. Would never go back now. It's quick, easy and hasslefree whilst giving a very smart finish which will fool 99.9% into thinking It's pulled.

Correctly clipped means just the sides.

Id be interested to see what clipped tail haters believe a clipped tail looks like.

A few people have mentioned natural. That isn't correct for some. If natural is a personal choice thats fine but not really what my topic is asking.

Ah, only the badly done clipped tails look crap and amateurish! You will have believed the cleverly clipped tails to have been pulled :)!

You must be looking at something different to me as mine does not look crap or amateurish.

Tiddlypom I agree with you they looked pulled, in fact I think they look better than pulled.

I hate a natural tail, at a competition it just looks like you're lazy to me and can't be bothered to make a effort. At least plait then if you Insist on a natural tail, don't be scruffy.

I hate the "clipped" look too. Here it means clipped/shaved up the sides and really short on the top. I like a pulled look, but not actually doing it. I feather and blend with the clippers, which gives me the pulled look, without the shaved look.

Apparently I am old fashioned and amateurish because my horses' tails are left natural and if they need to look smart I plait. I can turn out a decent tail plait though.

And there in lies the problem - I can't plait a tail to save myself. Plus a lot of the time (endurance & dressage), plaiting isn't actually required, but I still like a nice tidy tail to go with a pulled mane. The other thing is, my mare is a bit messy, and by keeping the top short, she doesn't pee on it.
