So, welsh beats is in full winter coat, live dout unrugged so far. He is also a mud magnet and I have found myself unable to ride as he rolls first thing every morning in a wet muddy patch, thereby coatng himself in wet mud which cannot be brushed off til dry.

Decided I need to rug to keep clean. Decided then I need to clip else he'll be far too warm. Groomed as much as I could but still very hairy and dirty coat.

What would you do re clipping? He really needs a bath but wll probably then be very cold. I do have a stable so I can bath him and keep in til dry, then clip maybe?

Thanks

Mine is the same and is coming up to clip time. I just groom like I'm posessed and make her as clean as I possibly can, then clip away. Too cold for baths imho and especially with a winter coat would be v slow to dry.

How about getting a very light weight rain sheet with no fill? You could then give him a good groom, leave him rugged up for a few days and see if he over heats?

In a rug this light you may not need to clip at all, but if you did I would be tempted just to do a bib clip, but wouldn't be bathing atm....

No thats what I thought about the bath.

He has been overheating with no rug so I feel sure with any rug he will be too warm, although he might have to suffer it for a few days to remain clean for the clip (I think it will take a couple of days efforts to groom!)

Also, any idea where to get coarse blades from? I have snap on blades, liveryman ones, but only medium (2.4)
