I'm not sure when i will be clipping. Will depend on the state of their coats the big ones still have lovely summer coats whereas Lily is getting wooly already but she wont be clipped at all.
V will, hopefully have a full clip as he works quite ard and summer will have a trace, probably.
I wanted to vote twice because I'd give totally different answers for each horse! I put hunter clip in next month (or around then anyway) because that's what I'll do with my main horse. However my other one will be unclipped.
Reasons - number 1 horse is in work & I hate him losing turnout time because he's too sweaty or wet to put a rug on (& far too much of a wimp to go out unrugged!). He'll be hunter clipped because he isn't good to clip & I can make a hunter clip last a whole winter if I rug him well, a smaller clip needs redoing when it partly grows out. Number 2 horse is a youngster who'll be doing very little work so shouldn't be getting sweaty & certainly not enough that he won't quickly cool down enough to have a rug on (assuming he even needs one
I'll probably clip shadow mid october and she has basically a hunter clip but with the saddle area clipped so just her legs and half her head unclipped. I don't know about charlie yet, it depends how hairy he gets.
Mine will be clipped when their full winter coat has come through, I have no wish to clip every week up until then.
Geldings/colts get full clips, fillies get blanket clips. Heads off, legs on.
None of mine have shown any signs of changing in their coats yet.
Blackie is just going to have his neck and chest taken out as he is already starting to get a bit sweaty and that's just hacking for about an hour. He's a fluffy monster though. This will be his first ever clip but I'm sure he will be fine, nothing else seems to faze this guy!
Rhyn is being clipped on tuesday, full clip. His coat has grown like you wouldn't believe and I want to get him fitter. Also hoping to be hunting soon and as I'll be hacking to meet close-ish to the yard he'll need the whole lot off.
I'll be taking legs and head off, which I wouldnt normally do in the winter, so if I clip now I can still get away with taking all off. When he gets his first winter clip I'll leave the legs on.
I have put what I usually have done as this year she is in foal so is not being clipped at all although she is starting to lose her summer coat. Last year I had her clipped out fully at the end of October and she lasted all through the winter not requiring a re-clip at all.
I fully clip her out because she works most days for around 1 hour to 1 1/2 hours and she gets a lot of work in that time and sweats up even without her coat.
Next couple of weeks, might leave willow abit longer as he isnt too furry. I take it all off, head, legs the lot. Just leave Oshka a numnah patch because he is very thin skinned.
