Clipping

Think we'll clip Pippa this year,
BUT
We will probably get someone else to do it, but not sure how cost effective this is...when would be the best time to clip her so that her coat wont grow back instantly?
How often will she need clipping?
Lol and finally does anyone know a person/company who will do this sort of thing (near me!!) ?

Depending on what sort of hairy monster you have you'll prob need to clip at the beginning of october, and then around the end of november. The earlier you clip the more times it will need doing. Make sure they are well rugged, this will slow the regrowth a bit.

People say you shouldn't clip after January in case it ruins the summer coat.

No idea on prices I'm afraid, I do my own. Do you have a friend you can bribe?

I clip my cob end of Sept the begining of Oct - and then have to clip pretty much monthly as her coat grows so quickly. Last year however I only had to clip her and my wb twice as their coats didn't grow as fast.

I know round here people charge between £20 - 30 a clip. I let people at my yard borrow my clippers and they give me a £5 which goes towards the cost of servicing and blade grinding.

Is there anyone at your yard who can lend you their clippers?

Horses stabled at home at we're preety much out in the sticks, so not really anyone to ask/borrow/steal of

will probably clip her end November as she's not much of a hairy beast

let the coat grow through if you are on a budget. someone who clips for financial gain will have the following expenses
1 travel costs.. car ins mot tyres etc and time involved
2 commercial insurance and liability cover
3 at least 2 sets of clippers and blades and oil
4 time to clip said animal good or bad
5 a committment to finish the job
6 a full set of clothes that need washing
7 blades that need sharpening
8 machines that have to be pat tested annually
9 extension cables abd circuit breakers
so when you are quoted a price please take the expenses into consideration
a good salon charges £35 plus for a cut and blow dry!!

My salon does not charge £35+. However when I clip I start at £25 and add extra on for awkward behaviour.
