This may be a stupid question but im new to clipping and after some advice.
I purchased some laube lazor clippers with snap on blades from a friend or a friend had the blades sharpened last week i attempted a trace clip on the weekend. only managed half way around horse when blades suddenly stopped cutting. Surely they arent blunt already?

so my question is how often long do blades last ? and how many times can you get them sharpened. I have ordered a new blade but would like some idea of how long blades last.
thanks!

You're horse should be very clean before you attempt to clip, as this may blunt the blades much quicker than they should, did you oil the blades every so often as well?

They could be blocked by hair. Mine stop working because they are blocked. I use a paper clip unfolded to push the hair out.
My blades will do 2 full clips and a blanket before needed sharping and my cobs have thick hair.

Echo that they may have been blocked. My Heiniger Handy's tend to stop cutting about 3/4 of the way through a fuzzy clip where upon I have to take them apart quickly to remove all the hair, then their fine again.

The best thing to do is get new blades each season! I don't bother sharpening as it's a waste of time even on my powerful 300 watt clippers. New blades normally last me 1 hunt season and i clip 9/10 horses every fortnight! (full clips) But check there was no hair caught in them and don't over oil. Once or twice is usually enough!

I also think it depends what oil you use,. I have Wolseley clippers and used the thicker Wolseley oil and my blades blunted so quick. Been clipping for years and this season I saw a big bottle by Gold Label and its really thin oil. I only bought it cos it was cheap - best thing I ever did. Clippers run beutifully! Also, someone posted here that you should spaty yoyur horse with mane and tail/coat conditioner, theone sthat makes their coats silky. Again - really makes a huge difference. Good luck!

I have liveryman harmony ones and they have done 5 hunter clips with the same blades! Sorry to post steal but would it be cheaper to get new blades or get them sharpened?

Last year I did 5 full clips before I even noticed them starting to go blunt. I have mine sharpened at the end of winter so they are ready for the next autumn.

My laubes did this too. Hate to be the bearer of bad news, but it wasnt the blades, I had nothing but problems after problems with the Laube Shears. In at the moment to be repaired, but then will be getting rid as don't trust them anymore. Their probs started with just stopping clipping, same as yours.
