How hard is it to clip your horse without scalping them?

I can get some clippers (i clip my dog...) but ive never clipped my horse before. Id prefer someone else to do it but cant find anyone (paid obvs)

Im in cheshire, so any people to clip please let me know, if not - how hard is it??

I know everyone has to start somewhere, but my horse is actually out over winter competing so cant look like a total tool! :rolleyes:

Its quite hard to scalp a horse when clipping, although you have to be more careful around areas with folds of skin like the armpits!!
Tbh clipping is quite easy to do, just have to make sure you keep an even pressure with the clippers over the whole body so it doesnt look uneven and to prevent lines slightly overlap each sweep with the clippers.
One good tip to get rid of lines is to run the clippers at an angle over them and it gets rid of 'em!!
First clip really depends on the horse, how thick the coat is, workload etc but I personally tend to do the first in October usually later in the month for mine then shes got a fine coat!! Saying that I did the first clip on a horse yesterday at work, so really does depend on individual horse!

I think it's really easy, I did it for the first time last year and it was ok, just don't end up being clipper happy lol eg taking it all off I find it quite therapeutic lol, I clipped my mare on Sunday there just a half tracer her coat isn't too thick yet but she's sweating more than usual and I plan on jumping over the winter so if she needs more of then I will take more off, buts that's all the advice I can give, gd luck I say go for it, its the only way u will learn just take ur time x

shes mega mega hairy and maulting!!! when i notice her sweating up when being worked, i drop a gear and let her breathe lol.... thenpick up which is stupid but needed.

Didnt want to clip too early

I might do the first one myself as im not planing to go out until november :D
