Clipping

Any advice greatly appreciated. I have a super slinky ISH and this is going to be our first winter. She is casting a little hair at the moment but I can see no real evidence of a winter coat coming. She works quite hard and so get's pretty sweaty. I guess her coat is alittle bit denser than it was but if I clip in the next couple of weeks is that too early. I think I would need fine blades as well. I was going to wait for this couple of good weeks of weather to pass and then do it. What do you reckon? I'm used to 30 y/o and a dales pony who turned into wooly monsters on the last day of August.

Too early yet, no point. Wait til she has a decent amount of coat, and then do a bib clip. If still sweating, then do a neck and shoulder. If still sweating, expand to low chaser/trace and so on so that you take the minimum off to stop her getting hot and sweaty.
Another tip is do both sides equally - don't do one whole side of your intended clip then try to do the other in case the horse doesn't let you...looks ridiculous. So clip in even stages.
Can you tell I used to work for a vet who advertised for problem clipees, sedated them, and handed them to me?!

I think its a bit too early to clip, I know some people will say you can clip all year but I'd wait at least a month or so, unless they were sweating up really badly

Well she is sweating a lot but she has been all summer. We've played the clipper game and she seems ok. Don't think she'll like her face done though, but I have got some almost silent trimmers so will try those. I once did almost one side of a clip then my clippers packed in and took two weeks to be returned!

I clip my T.B. in the summer as he gets a thickish coat, no problems, just carry on if you need to.
