Hi, I am getting a new jumping saddle for my lad and the saddler has asked me what I would like her to bring out. She has a few ideas but I would also like some opinions and recommendations.
Horse is 16hh(at the moment), HannxCob. I am 5'10'' and of slim build, if that helps at all.
Thanks

the horse must be quite wide across the back with that sort of breeding, i'd think, so that might have a big influence on what fits. You're tall, do you have long thighs, and do you ride short for jumping. if so, you'll need pretty/very forward cut.
it's personal choice, and riding in lots of saddles till you find one that feels great, really. very hard to tell in 10 mins while trying saddles out.

He is quite wide across the back yes. At the moment he has a Bates dressage saddle and a Farrington event saddle. Saddler is bringing out a bates jumping one. I have quite short legs in comparison to my body but do ride short and prefer something more forward cut. I also like big blocks but not such a chunky saddle although I do like to feel as though I'm sitting in something. My friend has a wintec close contact and I don't get on with it at all.

The Bates Momentum is lovely saddle to sit in, very comfy but close contact. Also wide in the gullet.... Are you looking for a new or second hand saddle?

Well if the saddler brings it it will be new. I bought one from them about 11 months ago and they are going to part ex it. His bates dressage fits him really well, he is a wide in that.

maybe worth trying an amerigo vega close contact saddle, however not sure they would be wide enough! its a monoflap, forward cut, with a kne and calf block and very slimline. it has quite a flat looking seat but to ride in it is amazing!!!!!
its much more slimline than the albion contact which i found really too bulky seeing as i'm only a midget at 5 foot with short legs!!!!

I have the wintec close contact (with flocking) and have tried the Bates version with Cair (same company, same model but one is leather and one is synthetic) and loved them both. Only bought the Wintec though as I couldn't afford the Bates in the end!

I am 5'9" and slim- medium build 11 1/2 stone (38" hips) and found them both in 17" to fit my height and long legs fine.
