Following on from my sports bra thread I need to get generally new horse riding attire.
What does everyone ride in generally? I have jods, winter coat, boots chaps. I always struggled mid season with what to wear.
Also if you don’t have a coat on what do you do with phone etc.
Think it’s the top half I need help with ?

Get yourself a pocketed high viz vest. That’s my most worn item. Cost about £10 go’s over a coat in winter to over a vest top in summer and always has space for a phone if I have no pockets.

I wear riding tights and all have a phone pocket on the leg. Definitely needed!

Too wise, I tend to favour technical tops & base layers - sleeveless or short in the summer and long sleeved in the summer. Typically I wear a mix of running or cycling (Karrimor, Nike & Under Armour) and horse brands (Aubrion, Kerrits, Noble Outfitters, Horseware etc).

I prefer riding tights & sports wear as they wash (and dry!) so well :)

I ride in skinny jeans sometimes but mainly breeches or riding tights, summer I wear a strappy top when it gets colder a t shirt with a gillet or thin long sleeve top, even in winter I am not a great lover of bulky coats so layer up and put a body warmer on, I always wear proper riding boots hate riding in country boots or anything else.

I pick up some nice joules gillets and body warmers on e Bay and Vinted I find them good for riding, I do have a really nice thin Le mieux navy quilted satin shell type jacket which is comfortable for riding in.

Thank you, you find base layer better than a normal tshirt

I usually ride in jodhpurs but I will also ride in leggings because they are my usual thing to wear when I go to the yard after work and I am too lazy to change. I wear T shirts in the summer and long sleeved T shirts the rest of the year. In the winter, I just add more layers (usually a fleece, a gilet and a waterproof). If it is very cold, I wear a thermal base layer.

I find that a gilet with zipped pockets is very useful for keeping phone, keys and treats in. A brightly coloured bum bag is useful in the summer if you lack pockets because you can hang them on the fence but the garish colour reminds you to pick it up!

A gillet or body warmer is a must for me to have when I hack out, great for the phone and my house keys. You can get decent Hi Viz ones too. If too warm for that just put my phone in the pockets of my riding tights or wear a thin gillet.

I wear riding leggings with phone pocket. After a bad accident I never ride without a phone, even in the school, and I find a leg pocket is most practical as I don't need to worry about transferring between layers if get hot/cold. I pop it into the pocket when I get out the car at the yard and it stays there whatever I'm doing!

I also wear technical stuff, a combo of short and long sleeved base layers, gilets and softshell and a quilted jacket for really cold. I find technical stuff washes better and dries quicker. I find the non horsy stuff just as good as the horsy brands, and much less £££!

I have just had a major wardrobe refresh as I too found myself floundering for what to wear this year. I was riding in cotton leggings and normal tsbirts but was constantly putting holes in the leggings and finding myself boiling.

I've bought 4 technical short sleeve tops and 2 long sleeves, 5 pairs of riding leggings with sticky bum and a highly waterproof, highly breathable rain jacket. I already have a few fleeces, pre existing long sleeve baselayers, Joules or Joules type sweaters, a soft shell gilet as well as a few thicker ones and two winter coats (one warm, one warm and waterproof). I went for a mix of horsey brands and cheapo Amazon stuff.
My problem is a lot of my preexisting gear is very bright and/or patterned and my tastes have changed a lot over the past few years.

Just purchased a lovely Ariat stable coat, waterproof £85 from chelmford farm supplies £5 off for new customer. I live in Dunnes basic fleeces a steel at £7, if you are an extra large they have some in teal at £2 at the moment. I don't spend a lot on mucking out clothes, but have just seen this years Ariats winter collection got my eye on beautiful Ariat polo neck jumper with bit detail on the back looks beautiful.

Fleeces with zip up pockets if they are wet they dry quickly. Most baselayers are close fitting. In thick winter I wear a waterproof coat but usually I wear a tshirt fleece and gillet easy to take on and off and less bulky.

Thank you. I do have a winter coat but it’s not as thick as I wanted (the joys of ordering online)

Gilets !!
I have 47980 of them for every situation ?. Technical tops, base layers and yoga legging and tights. Loads of pairs as they cost about £15 and are high waisted and so comfy. Long boots just for riding in and a weird pair of Dunlop shoes in a fetching green that for some reason I love - but are hideous.

For me it is jeans, so no problem with a lack of pockets. In summer a t-shirt or polo shirt, when it gets colder a long sleeve thermal layer under the t-shirt, and a thermal layer under jeans when it is really cold. In everything but the coldest weather I manage without a coat, and in winter it is thermal layer, t-shirt, fleece and a gillet. I usually try to wear enough that I am a bit too cold if not moving, because my main issue is lack of time, and if I am on the cold side it reminds me to keep moving and not stop to chat.

I have never owned a bodywarmer/gillet I don't get them at all. (perhaps I'm missing out?)
for summer riding tights (must have pocket, stuff with no pockets is useless!) and either my standard cotton band t shirts or vest/running top which is bright or high vissy, plus my magnum boots.
Winter i have waterproof sealskins socks which are awsome and these long mucker boot things I got off ebay, they have been great for winter riding and jobs. Top half winter i generally have norweigan army shirt and musto jacket. Thermal layer for real cold and the amazing hat with the light in it ?
Im trying to invest in more waterproof stuff tbh as the weather in recent years seems to just piss with rain and nothing else, dont really get snow anymore where I am
