Cloudy Eye

Pony has got a partly cloudy eye on his near side. I am assuming he bumped himself while being moved on thursday. No other marks, not distressed, happy in himself - and seems to be able to see fine.
Vet is out this week so will obviously get it checked.
Just wondered really - whether it sounds like an eye ulcer to you guys?

Furryears - any time I see a reference to eye problems like your ponio's I get a shiver down my spine. Could be just a bump as you say but could be the start of something much nastier. My boy had chronic low-grade conjunctivitis before I bought him - previous owners (a RIDING SCHOOL!) did nothing to clear it up. Within 3 weeks, he had a cloudy eye that wouldn't clear up and which progressed to superficial keratitis with some uveitis and - long story short - he lost the eye after a 6 month battle. BUT another horse at the riding school developed a cloudy eye and as far as I know was fine after a week or so. So don't panic but get the vet asap and don't be fobbed off. If you wanna PM me when you know how ponio is doing, I'll be happy to give any info. Fingers crossed its just a bump xxx

Thank you sunny mum. I know if it were a guinea pig sat in front of me it would be an eye ulcer, but I have never really had eye problems with my horses. I will let you know when the vet has been. Thank you

Star has just recovered from an ulcer on her eyeball and it was incredibly painful, very swollen and her eye dripped and ran copiously. There was a wet mark on the floor from the tears running off her face. She ended up wearing a 'contact lens to act as an 'elastoplast' which allowed the ulcer to heal.

I totally agree with letting a vet look at it. Let us know how things progress, Good Luck.

furryyears, my advice would be to get the vet out immediately as the sooner the treatment starts the more likely your pony is to recover.

A search would reveal several posts made during my 3 month battle to save the sight of my pony who had a cloudy eye earlier on this year....confined to a darkend stable...eventally moved for more intensive treatment at a horsepital.

It's very possible he's knocked his eye, especially if it's a bit weepy. I think it could also be an oldish injury you didn't notice (this is based on horses at Old Yard who keep popping up with spots in their eyes!

I wouldn't panic, but definitely get the vet to check it when he/she comes out.
